ON THE RISING

She has watched the same Sun with its stupefying colour, blinding and beautiful rise from the depths of  this undeserving earth and take its place in the sky. There it has reigned supreme, with a backdrop of endless possibilities.
It should have stayed down in the pool or pit from which it came. At least then there would be no concept of time or measure of days wasted. And that feeling of time running out, when the sun begins its gradual descent and the battle ensues, darkness pushes through, the abandoning stretch of light is swallowed and suddenly the birds in flight appear to fall through unbearable hollowness,
would cease to exist.
